Why doesn't the Federal Government respect California's Proposition 215?

I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on why the Federal government is putting there nose where it does not belong by arresting medical marijuana co-ops. The people have made the choice for medical marijuana so why does the federal government want to play "Father Knows Best" with us?
